Design Week Portland is a weeklong series of events, installations, and conversations showcasing the evolving state of design in Portland, Oregon. Each year, the city-wide convergence of creatives from every discipline inspires a wave of collaboration, education, and community building.
At Cinco, we set out to create an event that would require us to work in a fully integrated process across all of the studio’s disciplines. The result was a captivating experience that blended a great party with an interactive installation of sound, vision, interaction, and soul.
Anki is a robotics and AI startup that creates physical objects designed to be intelligent and adaptable in the real world. Founded in 2010 by a trio of Ph.D. candidates at Carnegie Mellon’s esteemed Robotics Institute, Anki developed, tested, and launched Anki DRIVE in 2013 to rave reviews.
Their second release, OVERDRIVE, introduces new cars, new battles, and seemingly infinite track combinations built into the game’s evolving storyline. The real upgrade, however, is how the technology amplifies the power of the human imagination and brings people together through play.
In collaboration with Cinco Design, I helped create Anki’s 2016 broadcast campaign, including hero spots for the Overdrive Starter Kit, as well as the holiday launch of Supertrucks.
In 2016, Electronic Arts made the bold decision to bow out of E3, one of the gaming industry's most important events. Instead, they wanted to create their own inclusive, player-first community experience: EA Play. In close collaboration with the internal creative teams at EA, Cinco Design led the design, content production, and programming of the 2016 event.
I was tapped to lead Art and Motion Direction for content, encompassing a huge range of executions, from epic sizzle reels, wayfinding systems, and video walls, to a live-streamed press conference to kick everything off. From the start, our goal was to create a super versatile brand and design language, built for motion and flexible enough to adapt to a wide range of digital impressions and environments at The Novo in DTLA. We created bold, vibrant visuals to bring clarity to the EA Play brand amidst the diverse key art of the featured titles.

"Behind The Blade" is a documentary about the pioneering LA electronic music trio, The Glitch Mob. Director Matthew F. Smith captured their intricate creative process in developing "The Blade", the Mob's groundbreaking interactive stage rig. I stepped in during the final stages of post to direct, design, and animate the titles, credits, and intro sequence.
V.Next is an episodic sci-fi adventure game, created by SyncBuildRun. I had the pleasure of directing, designing, and animating this retro-futuristic title sequence for the game.

It was an honor to work with the Labs team at Instrument on this project for TEDxPortland 2014. The theme was simply "Perfect", however, this is not such a simple word. In a culture where we strive for perfection in myriad ways, it presented an interesting challenge. How do we define "perfect"?
We created a title sequence film for the event, as well as the website, iOS app, and interactive installation for a 7k run. My role included art direction/concepting, shooting elements for the video, compositing, and music selection.

In collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, I helped create a series of TV spots for Laika's stop-motion film, "Paranorman". "Nailed It" and "A Champion Rises" aired throughout the 2012 Olympics. We worked closely with Laika to develop the concepts, and they created custom stop motion and audio assets for the spots.
