Found — Macro Slides

2015, 35MM, FOUND

A few years ago my dad gave me a folder full of slides he shot on Kodachrome in the early 70s. He said he built a DIY super macro photography rig for his Pentax 35mm camera and did a bunch of experiments by coupling various lenses together. I finally scanned them, and damn I love these frames.

The images have some amazing color and textural palettes, but beyond that, I can’t help but wonder if all the times I’ve found myself shooting weird psychedelic macro compositing elements for projects (like particles floating in water, laser lens flares, hunting for rainbow refractions in obsidian, etc.) if I was actually driven by some kind of inherited predisposition toward visual nerdiness. Or maybe it’s just a coincidence.
